The GapGun system comes equipped to operate either non-contact (no standoffs) or contact (with standoffs). Because adding or removing the standoffs takes only seconds, you can maximise performance by selecting the best method for each measurement point.



Always use the GapGun without standoffs (non-contact)

1 - Where accuracy and repeatability are critical.
2 - On any surfaces that are soft, plastic, or may move.
3 - Where surface damage is a concern.
4 - For hard to reach, concave, or restricted areas.


Otherwise, use the GapGun with standoffs (contact)
1 - Where speed is more important than accuracy
(contact is approximately 15% faster).
2 - For measuring at arms length or on small complex features.
3 - Where an application specific standoff is used.
4 - To train new operators.

The GapGun’s Statistical Process Control system enables comprehensive planning, collection and analysis of measurement data. Automatic data transfer interfaces are available for most current SPC packages.
